Terms of Use
These terms are the agreement between you, the parent or guardian who sets up Scoopio, and us. Please read them with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we look after your family's information.
For kids: the short version
- Scoopio is for reading, learning and having fun with the news.
- Your grown-up is in charge of the account, so ask them first before changing settings or buying anything.
- Keep your PIN secret, and only open your own profile.
- Our comics are made by us, so please don't copy them and pretend they're yours.
- If a story worries you or seems wrong, talk to your grown-up. They can tell us.
1. Who we are
Scoopio is run by Reva Solutions Limited, a company registered in Hong Kong (address: Unit 506, 5/F, New World Tower 1, 18 Queen's Road Central, Central, Hong Kong). “We” and “us” mean Reva Solutions Limited. “Scoopio” means the Scoopio iPad app, its content and this website.
2. Accounts and children's profiles
- A grown-up holds the account. You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live, and a parent or legal guardian of the children you add, or have their permission. You sign in with Apple or Google.
- Children use profiles, not accounts. You can add a profile for each child with a nickname, a reading level and a 4-digit PIN. Children never sign up themselves.
- You're responsible for the account. That includes the profiles you create, keeping your Apple or Google sign-in secure, and how your children use Scoopio. Please choose nicknames that aren't your children's full names.
- Tell us straight away if you think someone else is using your account.
3. Free plan and Scoopio Plus
The free plan
Without a subscription, your family can choose 1 comic each weekday from the day's issue, and read the Sunday Big News. What the free plan includes may change over time (see section 7).
Scoopio Plus
- What you get: every comic in every daily issue, for every child profile on your account.
- Buying and payment: Scoopio Plus is an auto-renewing subscription sold through Apple's App Store. Apple takes payment from your Apple ID, at the price and for the period shown before you confirm. We never see your payment details.
- Free trial: if a free trial is offered, it turns into a paid subscription when it ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before. Any unused part of a trial ends when you buy a subscription.
- Renewal: your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, and Apple charges your Apple ID within the 24 hours before it does, unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the period ends.
- Cancelling: on your iPad, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep Plus until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Refunds: refunds are handled by Apple under its policies. You can ask at reportaproblem.apple.com. Nothing in these terms takes away any right to a refund you have under the law.
- Family Sharing: if Apple Family Sharing is turned on, members of your Apple family group can also use Scoopio Plus.
- Price changes: if the price goes up, Apple will tell you in advance and, where required, ask for your agreement before charging the new price.
4. Our content
- News, retold for kids. Our comics are short, simplified versions of real news, written for children aged 8–12. They leave out detail, and they are not a complete account of any event.
- How we make it. We use AI tools to help draft stories and draw panels, and a person checks every story before it's published. We name our sources in each comic's “How do we know?” note.
- Mistakes. We work hard to be accurate, but we can get things wrong. When we find a mistake, we correct the story in the app. Please tell us if you spot one.
- Not advice. Scoopio is for learning and fun. It isn't medical, legal, safety, financial or other professional advice.
- Links out of the app sit behind the grown-up check. We aren't responsible for other websites' content.
5. What you may do with Scoopio
We, or the people we license from, own Scoopio: the app, the comics, the characters (including Curio, Aisha and Benji), the artwork, the text and the Scoopio name and logo.
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Scoopio for your family's own, non-commercial reading, on Apple devices you own or control, as allowed by these terms and Apple's App Store rules. You're welcome to show a comic to friends, family or a class on your screen. Please don't copy, republish, sell or share our comics or characters elsewhere, or use them to train AI, without our written permission.
6. Fair use rules
When using Scoopio, you agree not to:
- break the law, or use Scoopio in a way that could harm a child;
- copy, change, reverse-engineer or take apart the app, except where the law allows you to;
- get around the free plan's limits, the grown-up check or our security, or use another family's account;
- download our content in bulk, scrape it, or overload our servers with automated tools;
- put information in a profile that isn't yours to share, such as someone else's full name.
7. Changes to Scoopio
We keep improving Scoopio, so features, stories, the schedule and what each plan includes may change. If a change takes away something important you've paid for, we'll tell you in advance and you can cancel. We aim to keep Scoopio running all the time, but it may sometimes be unavailable, for example during maintenance. Issues already downloaded can still be read offline.
8. Ending your account
- You can stop at any time. In Parent Corner, choose “Delete account and all data”. This deletes your family's data as described in our Privacy Policy. Deleting your account doesn't cancel a subscription: cancel that in your Apple settings too.
- We may suspend or close an account if it seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, or if we must for legal or safety reasons. We'll tell you why unless the law or safety stops us. If we close Scoopio altogether, we'll give you reasonable notice.
9. Our responsibility to you
- We provide Scoopio with reasonable care and skill. Apart from that, and to the extent the law allows, we provide it “as is”.
- Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't let us limit. Your rights as a consumer under the law where you live stay in place.
- Otherwise, we aren't responsible for loss that wasn't reasonably foreseeable, or for business losses (Scoopio is for family, non-commercial use). Our total responsibility to you is limited to the amount you paid for Scoopio Plus in the 12 months before the problem, or HK$100 if more.
10. Apple App Store terms
If you got Scoopio from Apple's App Store, these points also apply:
- These terms are between you and us, not Apple. We, not Apple, are responsible for Scoopio and its content.
- Your licence is for Apple devices you own or control, under the Usage Rules in Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions, including use by your Apple Family Sharing group.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for maintaining and supporting Scoopio. Apple has no obligation to do so.
- If Scoopio doesn't meet a warranty that applies to it, you can tell Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. To the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for Scoopio. Any other claims, losses or costs from a warranty failure are our responsibility as set out in these terms.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for dealing with any claims about Scoopio, including product liability claims, claims that it doesn't meet legal or regulatory requirements, and consumer protection or privacy claims.
- If someone claims Scoopio infringes their intellectual property, we, not Apple, are responsible for investigating, defending, settling and resolving that claim.
- You confirm you're not in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and you're not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must also follow the terms of any third-party service you use with Scoopio, such as Sign in with Google.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and can enforce them against you.
11. Law and disputes
If something goes wrong, please talk to us first. Most problems can be sorted out quickly.
These terms are governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and the Hong Kong courts can hear disputes about them. If you live elsewhere as a consumer, you keep the protection of your local law and can also bring a claim in your local courts.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when we add features or the law changes. We'll update the date at the top, and if a change is important, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect. If you don't agree, you can stop using Scoopio and cancel any subscription before the change applies.
If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a term straight away, we can still do so later. You can't transfer these terms to someone else. We may transfer them to another business that takes over Scoopio, and your rights won't be reduced.
